North Carolina Blue Ridge Parkway
|
|
The Blue Ridge Parkway winds through the North Carolina mountains and provides endless opportunities for recreational activity. Just taking a short drive along this famous route is a treat with a seasonal parade of native dogwood, rhododendron and fall colors. Many walking trails are available and horseback riding is popular. Trout fishing, hiking, bike riding, rafting, and boating are available. Views are spectacular.
These mountains of western North Carolina are referred to as the Blue Ridge because the mist often casts a mysterious blue shadow which is quite different than the gray mist typical of the Great Smoky mountains. The northern section of the Blue Ridge
Parkway meanders through the High Country from the Virginia line to Grandfather Mountain located between Blowing Rock and Linville.
The Parkway then roams south beyond Asheville ending in the Smoky Mountains.
In the old days transportation was difficult and small communities developed along the Blue Ridge Mountains, each with its own unique character and style. The North Carolina mountains remains so today. Each community has its own style but each offers the summer or winter vacationer a similar mix of vacation rentals: rustic or luxury cabins, upscale or simple cottages, mountain chalets, and traditional vacation houses for rent. The recent addition of golf course and luxury resort communities now offer more upscale vacation rentals.
