Crystal Coast is a narrow piece of land stretching 25 miles along the Atlantic. Land begins just south of the North Carolina Outer Banks with the Cape Lookout National Seashore and extends to the Lower Banks. Known as Bogue Banks, North Carolina Crystal Coast played a critical role in American history. Cape Lookout Lighthouse was built in the 1800s to warn passing ships as well as to beckon those seeking safe harbor, including the infamous Black Beard.
